Tutoring Style and/or Experience
I believe the purpose of education is to prepare our children for the future so that they may prosper in today’s society. In the realm of special education the students have a variety of abilities. The goal of special education is to take these abilities and make them work in the society the individual chooses. Therefore as a special educator I believe it is my purpose to look for the strengths in all and prepare them to thrive throughout life with as much independence as possible.
I am a licensed special education teacher that firmly believes that each child has a unique individualized way of learning. Therefore we must individualize the way we teach. I have been a special education teacher for 3 years and love watching each student grow.
I have experience working with children of all ability levels. I work with the general education population, students with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disabilities, and much more!
My Philosophy is listed below:
I do not believe that children with special needs, nor those in the general curriculum, can be taught through a mode of rote memorization. It is my belief that all children need to touch, feel, hear and visualize what they are learning. They must be able to take a piece of information and make a connection into their own lives.
I want to encourage all of my students to reach their fullest potential. I want to challenge each individual on a daily basis. I want them to be able to recognize their strengths and know when to utilize the resources around them. There is no end to any individual’s success. Once we stop believing that a child can grow as an individual is the day they cease to exist.
In the words of Marian Wright Edelman, “If we don’t stand up for children, then we don’t stand for much.”
