Tutoring Style and/or Experience
Near the end of 8th grade, both my math and science teachers told me in some form or another that I was not an exceptional student. Maybe they knew something about my personality at that time, for while it hurt me, their words also challenged me to become better than I could have ever imagined. I was upset, and I immediately went to work trying to disprove them. A year later, I found myself taking college level chemistry along with calculus of the same caliber at the age of 14.
From reading about and experimenting with different study methods, I realized that there are two basic ways of learning math and science. One requires long hours of mind-numbing repetition of unrelated facts. The other, which I prefer, centers around the very nature of math and science: that they have axioms or models upon which everything else is based. Knowing this simplifies everything. Whenever I have to study, I simply identify the key ideas, get really familiar with them, and suddenly all the other details fall into place.
Since my initial success, I have expanded and adjusted my methods for use in other areas of science that I studied, from gross anatomy to materials science. The results were evident in my grades and helped me much in the past as teaching assistant for general chemistry, a volunteer tutoring kids at a youth center, and as a friend helping numerous fellow classmates.
Science can be very exciting and can be mastered if you know how to approach it. Depending on the circumstances, I'd love to help with homework, explain concepts, give study tips, apply study methods, provide real-life examples/projects, etc. I think it is very satisfying to help someone succeed in math or science and really enjoy it. If you are interested receiving my help in any science subject, please contact me.
