Tutoring Style and/or Experience

Since moving to New York City in 2006, I have tutored students at a number of the city's most competitive schools, including Horace Mann, Trinity, Columbia Prep, the UN School, and the Dwight School. I am a patient, enthusiastic, and above all methodical teacher. I focus on making sure that my students acquire fundamental knowledge in a given subject before moving on to more sophisticated concepts. In terms of test-prep, my experience writing exams has also given me insight into both the SAT and the ACT at a level I believe few tutors can match. I teach my students to both recognize and anticipate the underlying structure of these exams so that there are as few surprises as possible when they actually sit down and take them for real. My students have increased their SAT Verbal scores by close to 200 points. In addition, I have spent a significant amount of time walking students through the entire college admissions process, from compiling a preliminary list of schools to receiving acceptances, and to date, all of the students I have helped have been accepted into at least one of their top choices.
