I tutor Math, SAT Preparation, Excel Programming and Spreadsheet Development from high school to college level.
I earned a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Gannon College and an MS degree in Electrical Engineering from George Washington University. I retired from IBM after spending 25 years developing digital computers and computer performance models.
I gained an interest in tutoring when I volunteered for 1 year as a math tutor in a DC sponsored program for middle school students. Since retirement, I have accumulated over 900 hours of tutoring experience with students from middle school to college.
My strongest mathematical fields are algebra, geometry, analytic geometry, trigonometry, and calculus. I prepare students for SAT and AP Math tests. I also specialize in the instruction of Excel programming and spreadsheet development that is based on my experience with computer performance models.
I emphasize a systematic approach to problem solving that reduces test anxiety levels and the chances of making mathematical errors. I have experience with AD students (Attention Deficit) which has taught me patience and various approaches to explain math concepts and to maintain student interest.
Tutoring is scheduled at the students' homes at our mutual convenience. For the protection of the student and the tutor, a parent’s presence is required in the home for students under 18 years of age. An alternative is for sessions to be conducted at a local library or school. Tutoring can be performed face to face or electronically by e-mail or phone.
