Throughout high school and college, I have helped my peers and juniors with various subjects if and when they had doubts, and were comfortable asking me. In my senior year of college, I tutored Caltech students that needed help in a few Math subjects (probability, linear algebra mainly).

Try and explain the basics as much as I can, provide examples, and provide various levels of exercises to test the student's intuition and understanding. Work hard till the subject matter makes sense to the student. I can possibly bring along textbooks that I recommend in the subject to help the student as needed.

I am very persistent at learning things - if I do not understand a topic, I work hard till I can figure out how it works - no half measures there. Similarly, when I teach, I make sure that my student understands what I am talking… about - and if he/she doesn't, I will try to explain it in a different manner till there is no doubt in his/her mind. My persistence, I think, is probably the one thing that makes a good student, and hence a good tutor.
