I am an experienced tutor of young children through middle school age who was also a computer programmer and a science & technology researcher at NASA for 20 years. My undergraduate studies in college were interdisciplinary with an emphasis on advanced math and science courses at the New York Institute of Technology where I am a member of the Golden Key Honor Society and maintained a 3.97 gpa. I believe many schools have not been successfully teaching children basic skills at an early enough age so that once they are lost and fall behind, they stay behind. For children who are struggling I try to recapture basic skills first to bring them back to the level they should be at, focus on understanding the concepts and not just memorization so that they retain what they learn, and motivate them by helping them to understand that anyone can learn and be successful, and that anything you learn can be fun, interesting, and valuable.
