I am a credentialed VUSD Reading Intervention Teacher.
Allow me to help your child achieve reading success!
I provide one-on-one tutoring at your home.
My first task is to assess your child's needs. The assessments will pinpoint phonetic needs, level of fluency, sight word mastery, and comprehension. Assessment results will be used to design a program that builds on the student's skills and interests and provides activities of direct benefit to the student.
My Mission
My mission is to motivate children to want to read for pleasure and to learn, to help children become engaged readers and writers, and to ensure that children comprehend their classroom reading curriculum. What children can do on their own is their level of actual development and what they can do with help is their level of potential development. I strive for each child to reach their potential development.
Goals and Objectives
All students will read well and independently by the end of the school year.
All students will increase their phonetic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension by at least one level.
The Program
The program will use The California Reading and Literacy Project reading skills assessments to measure your child's skills at entry and at one-month intervals.
The program will create and maintain portfolios that document your child's progress.
Reading Curriculum
The program ensures that the reading curriculum supports the school's reading approach and program design.
It will be a structured, yet flexible, format for tutoring sessions.
A consistent structure helps both the child and the tutor to stay organized and focused on meeting individual goals. Children feel a sense of competence from being able to predict what comes next in each tutoring session.
A flexible format allows the tutor to use strategies that are tailored to address each child's learning style, skills, interests, and needs. The flexibility ensures that each child will receive individualized and developmentally appropriate support.
A sample of a tutoring session:
* Phonetic activity
* Vocabulary review
* Reading of story or novel
* Vocabulary and comprehension exercises
* Writing activity
Payment is due at the end of each tutoring week. The rate is $50 per hour. 2 one hour sessions per week is recommended.
