I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Physics from one of the top three technical undergraduate colleges in the USA - Harvey Mudd College, part of the Claremont Consortium in Claremont, CA.
Prior to becoming a student at Harvey Mudd College, I tutored at at North Seattle Community College, Seattle, WA. I tutored both to individuals and to groups of students for four quarters (a year).
I have come to experience that anyone can learn anything, but only if it can be explained to them via examples they can relate to. Thus, as a tutor, I try to see the problem from the student's perspective and therefore to explain it via words and examples that will make sense to them. I am very patient, open minded and always willing to change what I am doing if a particular strategy is not working for the student. I also believe in not only explaining concepts and equations, but also the essential skills of problem solving, so that eventually a student will be able to understand and solve a problem on their own just by thinking it out.
I also tutor math in addition to physics and chemistry.
I have no trouble relating to any age group.
I have decided to tutor math, physics and chemistry again because I am changing my career path to one that does not use these sciences. Nonetheless, I would still like to keep a firm grip on my knowledge of math, physics and chemistry, and that is best done through teaching the subject matter to other people.
