If you don't read any further than this paragraph, you will still understand fully what we offer. The most important mission of our tutoring service is that we truly work through the academic subjects to help the child learn how to be successful in school. Many tutoring facilities such as Sylvan, Kaplan, Huntington, and Kumon work within a specific subject area or ares to accomplish improvement in a single skill or leveled subject. Our goal is to find out what trouble the child is having, whether it be study skills, organization, lack of subject foundations, confusion over terminology, or a learning style that differs from the teaching style of their school. Once we have assessed that we work with the child to understand that they are not dumb, or incompetent, but that they learn differently, and often better and with more detail and passion than their peers. We then work to fix the area for improvement by partnering with the student, their parents, and the school to ensure everybody is aligned with the path to success for that child and go about working to engage the student. At the end of our time together students are not only receiving better grades, but they have learned why they are, and how to apply the process to other subjects. They don't need us for very long in general because they have learned how they learn best and are more able to access the resources which allow them to do just that. We truly work ourselves out of a job and wouldn't have it any other way. This system works for all student who are struggling within a very rigid and patterned school system that does not allow them to think outside of the box very often. Therefore it is suited to all types of learners including children with documented language based learning difficulties, dyslexia, add, adhd, gifted, and twice exceptional students and any others who are generally unmotivated by schoolwork, or are frustrated by it. If your child is frustrated, unmotivated, and upset about school, chances are we can do a lot to alleviate that. Our solutions are not overnight, but we guarantee greater academic confidence, which is the best way to ensure long-term academic success. We have references to back our claims and hope that we can have the chance to serve you and your family.

Update August 2009: Currently hired in a half time position to assist in creating a gifted program in the number one ranked Chicago Public School.

Update: June 2009: In using our Science ISAT intervention method we brought a group of 61 fourth graders from an average 55.6% meeting standards to a 81.1% meeting standards. Additionally, when removing language learning students from the data we achieved a 97.0% rate of students meeting or exceeding standards. These percentages were the highest the school had seen in its history of offering standardized tests in science.

Here at LakeView/Lake Forest Academic Services we see every child as unique and special, having strengths that have gotten them to progress to this point. We work to find the strengths within the child first, and then help them to build upon those strengths so that they can be empowered to feel success in their schoolwork and personal lives. We use research based and classroom proven methodologies to assist children to develop their potential and achieve their goals. We employ the Wilson reading system in our reading remediation. We have extensive experience with guiding children with learning disabilities including ADHD, Dyslexia, language-based learning disorders, and emotional stressors. Our job is to ensure your child is confident in their schoolwork and that they feel ownership over it. We also offer group tutoring in home with children of the same age/ability range.
