I have been teaching and tutoring for many years, and I've learned that flexibility, creativity and patience are the most important qualities in this line of work. Along with these qualities, I bring both discipline and compassion to the tutoring table. I like to challenge my students, to push them beyond their perceived limits; people are almost always capable of more than they realize.
I have studied and tutored/taught at MIT and Columbia. I have also tutored a wide variety of students outside of those institutions. I'm happy to work with students of all ages and at any level of ability.
I received Bachelor's degrees in both Biology and Writing from MIT, and my MFA in Writing is from Columbia. I'm now pursuing my PhD in English/Creative Writing at University of Denver. I taught essay writing to Columbia undergrads, and I've helped everyone from young children to Columbia professors to improve their writing skills. My expertise is in Literature & Writing, but I have a solid foundation and tutoring experience in Biology, General Science, Math (up to Pre-Algebra), Conversational Hindi, and Test Prep (SAT, GRE, TOEFL).
If my hourly rates are too steep for you, drop me a line anyway. In the past, I have traded my services for other services or goods (e.g. pet care, singing lessons, home-cooked meals), so we may be able to come to some sort of arrangement that suits both of us. And if you just want some advice about what kind of tutoring would work best for you, that's fine too; I'm happy to exchange some emails or have a phone conversation to answer your questions free of charge.
