Just finished up the student teaching program at Sac State, and I am currently looking to further my experience. Knowing how one student's mind works will help me work better with a classroom of students. Most recently, I have taken on a number of private tutoring students, but I have also tutored (volunteer and paid positions) since 1999. I have coached MathCounts, tutored resource and special ed students, and even taught dyslexic students to improve their reading skills. Over the years, I estimate that I have had about 120 tutoring students, and I have also taught six math classes, plus various internships throughout the Sacramento area.
My tutoring style varies, but it always is based on the foundations of mathematics. I help students build on the knowledge they already have to learn new concepts. Other than that, I tend to tailor the style to the student--pictures, games, whatever the student works best with.
Wasser Prize for Excellence in Mathematics (UC Davis, 2006). I maintain that I won this award not for being any smarter than the other college students in this competition, but because my explanations were very clear and thorough.
