I am a student of linguistics and Semitic philology at the University of Chicago with proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic, Hebrew, and Japanese and considerable experience in language teaching and tutoring. I have taught both group classes and individuals, usually with my own curriculum. My students have ranged from middle schoolers to adults in their 70's, from people who easily learn a foreign language and writing system to people who do not. Due to this variety in my students, I am well practiced in adjusting my curricula to accommodate for different student needs and goals: I can include more or less vocabulary and grammar each lesson, shift between native script and romanization, and, in the case of Arabic, increase or decrease the discussion of historical Semitic linguistics and parallels with Hebrew and Aramaic.
As a final note, I have knowledge of phonetics due to my linguistics background, which is invaluable in explaining some of the trickier sounds of these languages to beginners.
