Ms Heather S. of Bethesda MD USA Tutor Profile
Tutor Personal Information
|Name:||Ms Heather S.|
I teach my passions! I love language and have over 10 years of experience learning, teaching, and using French in my work. I hold a BA in French, Summa Cum Laude, and I received my French department's Outstanding Graduate Award. I studied abroad in Aix en Provence, France where I took courses in history, ethnology, and Chinese for one year. In addition to tutoring, I have practiced as a French-English freelance translator for two years. If grammar is a difficulty, I have a strong grasp of the finer points of French grammar, but I also teach French as a language to be used, spoken, and enjoyed, not just as a set of grammatical rules.
As for English, I teach reading, essay writing, and test preparation, and I received a perfect 800 score on my own SAT Verbal, prior to the addition of the essay section. My undergraduate studies included a number of literature courses in English and French, and my work as a translator requires me to be intimately familiar with English grammar, style, vocabulary, and usage. I have experience teaching English as a Second Language to children, using games and toys as learning tools.
Are you interested in world history, geography, government, or politics? I also hold a BA in International Studies and an MA in International Affairs, and I have worked in international development and human rights organizations in Washington, DC.
My teaching and tutoring experience includes ages from 5 years old to adult in English, French, English as a Second Language, math, social studies, and science. I love learning myself, and I greatly enjoy facilitating the process of learning for my students. Each student has unique gifts and personality, and I try to build on those foundations to make learning as effective, personal, and enjoyable as possible!
