I began working as a tutor this summer, originally with Boston Global Education (BGE). BGE offers a program for Korean exchange student that helps them with their schoolwork, as the transition if often difficult. Being new to America, I often worked with students who could not speak much english, and as I result I learned how to tutor in what I think of as a more universal way that really focuses on finding a way for the student to understand the information.
My tutoring style is centered all around the student, I try to cater the way I teach to the individual student's preferred learning style. Some students prefer to learn algebra more generally, using variables to represent concepts, while some may prefer specific numerical examples. I try to recognize the information the student needs and then the best way to get the information across and understood. One thing I never do is get upset at a student for not understanding a concept. While I admit there are moments of frustation in teaching difficult concepts, remaining optimistic is key to making progress.
I have experience tutoring Chemistry, Biology, Elementary Science, Algebra 2, Algebra 1, and elementary math.
