Tutoring is more than just teaching a subject, it's teaching people. I want to help my students not only learn the subject matter, but to become better students overall. My goal is to create an environment where not only is there a dialogue about a particular school topic, but also inspires the student to develop a desire to learn more. Once this is accomplished, real learning takes place.
I like to encourage students to ask any and all questions and to be fully engaged in the learning. I do find that students that are most successful identify the concepts the struggle with at the beginning of a particular sessions and we attack that first. So it is important to me that the student can show/develop a degree of leadership during the tutoring sessions.
In terms of style, it is very flexible to the student. For the more hyper student, I try to be energetic while more stern about staying on the right topics. The students that show interest in a topic, I'll always look for something extra (like a real world example) to incorporate into the classes.
I've tutored with MT Education Consulting Group for three years in:physics, calculus, pre-calculus, geometry algebra, SAT 1: Math, SAT 2: Physics, Math level 2, Math level 2. I've tutored middle school to college age students.
