I graduated from Western Washington University in 2014 with a major in English Literature and a minor in Japanese. I am currently completing my certification to become a secondary-level English Language Arts teacher. I was a writing tutor at Western for three years and I have also tutored after-school at several Bellingham schools. Although English is my specialty, I have a passion for interdisciplinary learning; I don't see subjects as existing in isolation, but rather in relation to each other. I think the best kind of learning wakes up our perception of the way things are connected.
As a tutor, I aim to help students make a personal connection to what they are learning and have fun with the process. To make this happen, I focus on helping learners approach challenges with a mindset of growth and resilience.
My favorite part of being a tutor is helping people find unconventional strategies for looking at problems. I am a big fan of using tools like sticky notes, doodling, and roleplay to work with big, difficult ideas. I use these strategies myself all the time. But, whenever I'm not doodling, you might find me hiking, watching stand-up comedy, dancing, or cooking gourmet meals with my sister.
