As someone who is passionate about learning, I am excited to help others achieve their academic and career goals. With a background in Chinese studies, literature, and international education, I have had to opportunity to help local and international students acquire the language skills they need to adapt to their surroundings. In addition to tutoring American students in Mandarin Chinese and teaching English at a Chinese university, I have also helped students with public speaking, writing resumes and cover letters, and improving their study habits.
I specialize in tutoring Chinese, ESL, reading, and writing. When learning a language, students should always start with topics that interest them in order to become self-motivated learners. Therefore, I try to plan creative lessons, activities, and homework that will both challenge the students and allow them to have fun.
In addition to being a native Chinese speaker, I received a B.A. in Chinese Languages and Literature from the University of Florida. I tutored 7 to 10 students per week in written and conversational Mandarin in my M.A. in International Studies program. From 2012 to 2014, I lived in Hangzhou, China for 2 years as an English lecturer at Hangzhou Dianzi University.
While majoring in Chinese studies as an undergraduate student, I minored in Linguistics and took several literature and film studies classes. I pursued my M.A. in International Education and received a TESOL certificate from Concordia University in Irvine, California. I taught English Speaking and Writing at Hangzhou Dianzi University for 2 years, covering topics from family and hobbies to writing resumes and cover letters.
As a life-long learner, I enjoy preparing students for their own academic success by helping them become self-learners. Graduating summa cum laude and pursuing an accelerated graduate studies program has helped me discover goal setting, studying, and organization techniques that allowed me to successfully complete my course work and thesis projects.
My schedule is flexible, except on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. If you need to miss class, please note the 24-hour cancellation policy, and we can reschedule for a makeup class.
Students or parents can choose a meeting location they are comfortable with, ranging from Miami Gardens to Ft. Lauderdale. I would be happy to travel to a location that is convenient for the student.
In order to make sure you are getting the learning experience you need, I will frequently ask for your feedback.
I sincerely look forward to hearing from you soon!
