I taught high school phyisics and biology at a co-educational boarding school for two years prior to returning to full-time science (currently I am a research technician in a developmental neurogenetics lab). For two years, I was fortunate to be able to not only teach high school students, but to coach them, advise them, and oversee their dormitories.
I believe in a relaxed, yet structured and disciplined learning environment. Additionally, I feel it is essential to understand my students as people, rather than unilateral pupils of a certain subject. Consequently, I emphasize communication skills and conceptual understanding rather than factual memorization.
