Learning is an empowering experience that can help you improve what you know, or expand your horizons. A student learns when she or he is engaged by the subject.
Just as adults do not like to be 'talked at,' children and teenagers will not learn unless you speak to them and listen. Students with problems in a subject are quite as intelligent as any other, perhaps more.
A teacher must learn to adapt to an individual's learning style: auditory, visual, kinetic, artistic, or a mix thereof. Offering a student a little of each of these styles, until both the teacher and student find the most comfortable spectrum leads to success.
