Hi! My name is Lauren. I am a student at the University of Vermont, concentrating in Human Development and Biology. I tutor in UVM's Writing Center where I assist students in brainstorming, writing, editing, proofreading, grammar, and organization. I frequently tutor ESL students, as well as students with learning disabilities. While I mostly tutor college and graduate students in the Writing Center, I enjoy working with students of all ages! I have extensive experience working with children as an employee of the YMCA of Greater Boston for nearly five years and as an intern at The Boys & Girls Club of Burlington. I have acquired over 30 hours of tutoring training in English and writing. I have received several awards: The Christine Martin Memorial Award for my dedication to childhood education, The Belmont SPORT Youth of the Year Award for my work with special needs students, and The Emerson College Outstanding Playwright Award for the submission and direction of an independently written script.
My tutoring and teaching style is one heavily dependent upon a healthy communication between tutor and tutee. My goal is to help my students help themselves. I strive to provide a comfortable, fun, and intellectually stimulating environment. I enjoy writing, reading, and revising all types of literature, from creative pieces to lab reports.
